sookie ties up loose ends July 29, 2010 T. Chartered (UK) I have been waiting ages to read this and I was disappointed it was so short and had less plot than the last episodes. I felt like this was a filler where loose ends were tied up and nothing new happened. It lacked the excitement and humour the previous books had. I did enjoy reading the book but was left feeling let down and wanting more.
Dead in the Family? ... More like Dead in the Water! July 29, 2010 scotreview Firstly I have to say that I am a huge fan of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series. I've read all the previous books and loved each and every one of them. I was looking forward immensely to her latest offering and even ordered pre-release to make sure I got my hands on it asap! Basically, I'm very much biased in favour of all things Sookie.
So imagine my disappointment in this offering. It just doesn't go anywhere. As others have said, the pace is slow, and there is a definite lack of action, romance, etc. I found myself three quarters of the way through wondering when it was going to get going. I feel the problem lies in that Ms Harris has tried to include too many plot lines; what with vampires, werewolves and fairies all trying to vie for our attention. Each one could have made a book in it's own right if only developed sufficiently. Point in case, the arrival of Eric's maker with newby vampire in tow - lot's of potential there but that storyline went nowhere!
And what's with the cover?! I know they're is a major market to be tapped into by tying in with the True Blood TV series, but half the characters depicted on the cover aren't even in the book (indeed one has never appeared in any of the books!). If a True Blood fan buys this one as their first introduction to the series, boy are they going to be surprised.
Basically, a big dissapointment - I'm only giving 3 stars since I'm a fan of the series and can't quite bring myself to give in the 1 star it probably deserves. When the next on comes out I think I'll ask my local library to get it in for me - not sure I'd rush out and buy another one!
dead in the family- Charlaine Harris July 29, 2010 lolly3d (uk) Well what can I say, I usually read her books in a couple of days, I have been reading this on for over 4 weeks and still only half way through, I was even tempted to put it down and read something else.
It seems to me that Charlaine has run out of ideas and it just waffling to fill pages, I have found this a hard read, uninteresting, and rather dull in parts, it just does not seem to have the edge, romance or humour her earlier books in the series had. Not sure I would buy anymore after this.
Brillliant Must Read!! July 27, 2010 CharlieKitten I purchased this book after reading the previous Sookie Stackhouse books! Always looked forward to the next book but this was very disappointing, I think its time she called it a day if she's going to churn out true blood novels that boring, what a waste of time & money!
